I’m not much of a music nut but I do try to refresh my music now and again. Back in high school, I was a hard rock fan. Van Halen reigned supreme. I still find nothing better than a good listen to 5150 or 1984 to get pumped up. I love Van Halen and Van Hagar equally!Later in college, my roommate gave me a proper introduction to Led Zeppelin, which was a pleasant change from my Pink Floyd CDs that were getting tiresome. Given it was the early 90s, the scene turned grunge and Pearl Jam and Nirvana were usually played. After graduation, I lived in Seychelles, a smaller version of Jamaica, so reggae and raggamuffin became favorite genres. Now, outside of Barney / Dora and other favorites from the kids, I try to discover something new and fresh to get into. I stumbled upon a few lately that fit the bill:

1234 by Fiest

Challengers by The New Pornographers

Fluorescent Adolescent by Arctic Monkeys

Give them listen and let me know if you have any other recommendations. I am always looking for something good.

Xalvador McCurdy Colopy. He is the third and joins his two older sisters Ximena and Xiomara.

The delivery went well and fairly fast — at least from my point of view. We dropped the kids off at a neighbor’s house at 7:30 that evening, took a walk in the neighborhood, and went to the hospital around 9. By 11:34, pop … he was born. 8 pounds 1 ounce.

Karalyn did great and is recovering well. We even all went Trick or Treating on Wednesday. Not bad for a mom and her 3 day old baby!

A couple of weeks ago, a woman approached my wife in the fruit section of Whole Foods and asked if she would like to be in a video. Strange? Normally — yes, but my wife is 8 months pregnant and the woman is producing a training video for a clinical trial for a drug designed to prevent pre-term labor. So, in this case, it oddly made sense. My wife agreed to participate and roped me in too.

We went to the filming this morning and were the stars of the video– at least she was. Although we had no real dialogue, over 5 or so hours, we meticulously went through the different scenes of checking into a doctor’s office, walking down a hall, taking a pill (which as really an Altoid … movie magic!), being explained consent forms, etc. It was fun and gave some small insight in how much time it really takes to put together a video.

The weirdest part of the morning was when one of the actors asked if I had any connection with Bronto Software. I said, “Yes — I have a lot of connection with Bronto.” Oddly, it ended up that the inquirer is Bronto’s health benefits consultant that we’ve been using for the last year or so. She played a nurse and did a pretty good job.

For some of the scenes, I wore my black belt with my signature Brontosaurus belt buckle. Of course!

The yellow pin on this screenshot of Google Earth is where I used to teach in the Seychelles — 8826.02 miles away. Although this screenshot doesn’t do it justice, the visuals are amazingly detailed and interactive.

Today is a big day — my youngest daughter turned 1. Xiomara has had a big year — breathing, smiling, crawling, talking (kind of) and then walking. My 35th year hasn’t been nearly as exciting.

Curious about the name? Xiomara is a Spanish name (my mom’s side of the family is from Puerto Rico). Although not that common, there was a famous Cuban singer from the 50s (Xiomara Alfaro) with the same name and it was ranked as the 768th most common girls name last year, right behind Rowan and Shea!

So pass the cake and sippy cup and we’ll return to our normally scheduled program of email marketing strategies soon.
