Joe Colopy is Founder and CEO of Bronto Software. As chief architect of Bronto’s strategic vision and direction, Joe has successfully led Bronto from concept to leading email marketing company focused on serving online retailers, interactive agencies, and marketing departments.

Recognized as a thought leader within the online marketing community, Joe has been a speaker at the DMA’s Email Evolution Conference and Shop.Org’s Annual Summit. He has also been featured in media outlets such as NPR’s Marketplace, Entrepreneur Magazine, MediaPost, DMNews, ClickZ, Internet Retailer and BtoB Magazine.

Prior to founding the company in 2002, Joe’s past professional experience has been with market leaders Red Hat, Harvard Business School and Dell Computer. He has been selected for the Triangle Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” Leadership award and Business Leader’s Triangle Entrepreneur Impact Award.

Joe received a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Harvard University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

My name is Joe Colopy. I am the CEO of Bronto Software, an email marketing software company based in Durham, North Carolina. I started the company out of my bedroom in 2000 after working as a marketer at Red Hat. Chaz Felix joined the venture in 2002 and soon after we incorporated the business as BrontoMail, Inc.

I originally hail from Akron, Ohio but have lived in a number of places. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard University. Years later I earned MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Somewhere in there, during my more adventurous days, I was also a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Seychelles Islands and a teacher in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

I now live in Durham, North Carolina with my lovely wife Karalyn and young children Ximena, Xiomara, and Xalvador. We have two cats (Mickey and Wilbur) and a fish (Sally).
