About
My name is Joe Colopy. I am the CEO of Bronto Software, an email marketing software company based in Durham, North Carolina. I started the company out of my bedroom in 2000 after working in marketing for Red Hat. Chaz Felix joined the venture in 2002 and soon after we incorporated the business as BrontoMail, Inc.
I originally hail from Akron, Ohio but have lived in a number of places. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard University. Years later I earned MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Somewhere in there, during my more adventurous days, I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Seychelles Islands and a teacher in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
I now live in Durham, North Carolina with my lovely wife Karalyn and our four young children Ximena, Xiomara, Xalvador, and Xaviera. We have two cats (Mickey and Wilbur), a fish (Sally) [dead], two baby frogs [dead], a dwarf hamster (Rainbow Dash) [returned to kindergarten classroom], and two parakeets (Sunny and Cloudy).
